The thought about aerodynamics and jet planes

B-1 Lancer
(USAF)

Kimmo Huosionmaa

This is the writing about the B-1 “Lancer” and some strange thing about the aviation of the United States Air Force. When we are reading the books of the aerodynamics, we always face the mysterious world “side relationship”. This world means that what kind of capacities the airplane has depends on the relationship of the wing area the length and form of the wing and the body of the airplane, and that´s the reason why some airplanes have so-called “sweep wings” what means that the wing of the airplane will turn backwards, when airplane increases the speed.

The “flying wing” formation has the best relationship cargo and operational range. But when we are talking about the aviation, we can make the many size airplanes with same drawings, and if somebody says, that there is needed more powerful engines, we can simply put more turbojets inside that aircraft body, if we want to make the bigger airplane. But when we want to make the smaller airplane, we can just make smaller body and wings, and also change smaller parts for the hydraulic systems.

So the question of the B-1 bomber is that same body and drawings are suitable for the fast tactical aircraft, what is useful for the same missions, what are reserved for F-22 and another tactical airplane. This aircraft can have the same kind of canopy than other tactical aircraft, but the modern ultra-fast airplane does not need the canopy or windows. The pilot can use the virtual reality for making the observations from the space around the plane.

In this scenario, the surface of the aircraft if full of tiny cameras and other sensors, what will give the pilot 360 degrees observation area, and the computer system can zoom the targets what will not give the positive IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) signal. Also, those virtual systems can be given only the information, what the pilot needs. But when the system faces the EMP-system, will those high-tech systems can be removed in seconds if the pilot needs analogical meters. So those virtualization systems can be fitted to the helmet of the pilot, and if the system fails, will the transfer to analogical systems happen only to cut off the electricity from the virtual mask. And the canopy will just change to the lucid form if the electricity of the system will cut.

Radical aircraft design whatever be more than drawing on the paper.

Focke Wulf  "Triebfluger" was an airplane, what was only existed in the paper. The ”Triebfluger” have been very radical design for the VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft, what could change our visions if the aerodynamics. The "Trieblfluger" was inspired one of the greatest ways to operate with the helicopters. Those helicopters could be easier to manufacture, but they will need the jet motors on the edge of the wings of the propeller.

In this ”simpler way” to make flying machines is one thing forgotten, those jet motors will be very complicated to build, and they will suck the kerosine with very fast speed, and that is the reason, why this kind of helicopters would ever build. In this scenario, the helicopters rotor is equipped with jet motors, and the fuel will come from the rotating ventilation in the middle of the rotor.

The reason why that way to build helicopter is very uncommon, is that helicopter will wear very much gasoline, but the inventors of the Focke-Wulff corporation calculated, that design will be easier to produce than normal jet turbine helicopter, what needs very complicated gearwheels, because the speed of the rotor must be decreased in the limits, that this system's structure will stand those G-powers.

This helicopter type what is represented the "Triebfluger" is called as the ”free rotating” helicopters, what are sometimes been on the table of designers. That helicopter is simpler to manufacture, but the motor system is very complicated because the use of the jet motors for rotating the wings. The ventilation system would be very easy to put in the rod of the main rotor, and it is very easy to impose. Or the bond must only be rotating. Another ventilation system might be fixed.

The most individual drive system of the submarines ever been designed was ever get the physical shape

Picture 1

The very dramatic way to create the radical power- and driving systems for ships and submarines will sometimes make very interesting ideas for replacing the propeller of the vessel. I sometimes read about one very rare idea for making the noiseless and fast submarine. The idea of that vessel was to boil the water at the nose of the egg-shaped submarine.

The inventor was meant that the boiler will make the bubble in the front of the submarine, what will slide forward. Because the vessel is sucked by the vacuum of the bubble, what is created with the resistors, what boils the water in extreme heat. In another version of this study project, the bubble was made with high power electrolysis.

And the power of that system was meant to make with “Walter turbine" what used the hydrogen peroxide and water as creating the steam, what rotates the turbine. I don’t know was that system ever more than the piece of paper, and did the creators of that idea mentioned to make the real vessel at all. But those things are the interesting way of thinking about the hydrodynamics.

All of the interesting projects of the technology are not ever driven farther than the picture on the paper. Those inventions were so individual or radical, that they ever could be done in the time when they were born. But those ideas are living in the memories and technical books, as the demonstration of the individual way of thinking
