Influence of the medieval period and the world of that time

(Picture 1)

In popular culture, we normally see medieval period violent and dangerous time. The term "Dark medieval period" might create by the Protestants, who wanted to destroy Catholic church. And in this light, we must understand that Protestants wanted to increase the Catholic church role as the instrument of power. This instrument was used to destroy the enemies of kings. And in this way of view, this era was the very pressing era, and the burning many persons who wanted to reform that organization gave it very dark reputation. That organization persecuted everybody who wrote anything that was not same opinions, as an officially accepted theological writing involved.

If there would be any conflict with Catholic church and writer, the last one would find himself at the top of the pyre. The women went straight to death because they could be prosecuted by the husband. Only men had rights in that time. The role of women, as they must be quiet, and their husband was talking in the public situation.  This is one way to look that period. The medieval period is quite different than we might expect, and of course, every criminal was not burned on the pyre. At that time were basically the same kind of criminal prosecution and punishment system than today. There was some kind of punishments like today, and the fine, prison and death penalties were used at that time. When we are talking about the inquisition, Dominican monks investigation system, the first punishments for prosecuted people were light.

The most common punishments were tickets, and the reason for this punishment was that was meant for cause hate against that person. This conviction was about the bullseye of the God. This was common version because somebody wrote the things, what were embarrassed for the Catholic church like the position of women and children. But when this person went back to home and tried to pay the price, there would not be any money. They were all taken, and then inquisition claimed that this person was cheapened the justice. And the reason for that must find out. That caused torture and death because the denying to pay the bill was so garish that it caused that penalty, where the person was burned to death.

The inquisition ever executed those people itself, the execution was made the secular authorities, that’s why Inquisition has kept its hands clean. The killing was not suitable for priests and nuns. It was the dirty job that left to sheriffs and soldiers. The medieval time was not full of the wars and despotism. The constitutional state was started to create in that time, and people learned to live even with Inquisition. The same thing was to happen in other fundamentalistic states in the world.

People would learn to live with that kind of system, and the turning to democracy was caused by war. The democratic state can mobilize all of the people, but dictatorship must leave large groups of the armed forces as the security troops, and this was the good argument for democracy if the state’s primary mission was to go to war. This model worked in Prussia, because it looked like more attractive, and gave people the change to take a part in the state leadership.

And this changed the military system that kind of thing, that every person in that state would feel, that they defended something important. But the democracy was far away from the medieval model, where the king was far away from the people. The kings ruled alone, and the people were same, who was their ruler. The unlimited rights of the ruler made the situation, that laws changed when the king changed. And that made the state very unstable.

How are the ancient gods made?

Picture 1

Kimmo Huosionmaa

When we are talking about the gods, this world doesn’t always mean that the god is nothing else than the person, who have some skills, what makes this person necessary for the community. In some cases, those skills, what the god had might seem like some supernatural things, but in the real world, the background of those things is almost every time some usually very simple technology. If some person controlled the irrigation system, he must be the person, who got very much respect from other people.

This thing is notable, when the god of ice is mentioned in some texts. This person might have skills to make the ice. In the realistic way that person had skills to build the temperature pump, and that thing might make the very good impression for some people, who saw the nasty stick and the wind, what caused the cold and white stuff formation in the surface of the artificial hill or house. In this text, the words “artificial hill”, means the muddy hump, what is used to store the ice.

Even if they didn’t know the temperature pump, the person who bought the ice from the mountains was very important part of society. The ice must be packed under the mud, and then bought from upriver of Eufrat to the front of the people. And if those ice bites, what is covered with the mud were used as the material of the dams, those dams will break, and then all irrigations would be left below the water. But when we are thinking about the ancient landlords, whose positions changed as the pharaohs and kings, we must realize that if some person controlled the dam in some Mesopotamian river, and this person orders to destroy that structure, could people die in the flooding.

And if those people wouldn't allow the freeing the water release to the agriculture, the people would die of hunger. I don’t know did those people know about the polluted water, but if they knew the methodology, what happens if the flesh was left too long in the closed pot with the mud, would that create botulinum in that food. And it would be caused the death. The electrical vortexes are very impressive, and of course, the Mesopotamian were noticed, that the lightning strikes almost every time to the tallest place on the place.

And maybe some of them accidentally left two copper or golden plates in the temple on the wooden statue, where were good isolator between them, and if the lightning strikes to that structure, it will store the electricity. If those people knew how to produce electricity with the batteries, where is copper and iron in some acid, they might test how to make hydrogen and oxygen with the electrolysis. In this theory have known the galvanic battery, that ancient scientist might notice the strange feeling when they touched those things with tongue, with the way that tongue touched both electrodes at the same time. And if they knew the electrolysis process, they might make nice explosions in the air.

The ancient people didn’t have the knowledge of the electrons, but they knew electricity as the phenomenon. The Greek philosophers thought that when we will cut the material enough, we will face the situation, where the material was cut in so small particles, that it will get the point known as the Greek word “atomos”. When the material gets this condition, it cannot break anymore. When we are talking about the flying with the balloons, the ancient Chinese knew how to fly with the paper balloons, where was the small burning piece of cloth below it.

Thinking about totalitaristic governments

"Philosopher"
Source of picture www.Gnosticwarrior.com

Totalitaristic way to rule nation is not actually wrong. We might say that every state what have governments and justice systems are someway totalitaristic. That means if law of state says something people must follow it in everyday life. When there is a text in lawbook that obliges every person who is in landscape or jurisdiction of that state. Law is always total, if anybody in that state will break it, that person should be punished. Laws are necessary things to protect citizens and other people from anarchy. They are upfront given orders how things should do in some area. Even dictatorship is not wrong itself. If dictator is good person he or she might rule with wisdom, but that kind of thing allows rise of despotic governments.

When dictators rule wisely we might forget that their sons might not be so wise than their parents were.  Good example of situation where good willing dictatorship was followed by despotic government was Gustav vasa the king of Sweden. He was good ruler but his sons were something else. So when swedish law changed that the eldest son of the king will automatically become ruler of the nation they forgot that king Gustav the Vasa had three sons, and that almost destroyed Sweden. Those sons were not like him, and their crossfire made impossible to make anything in that state.

And laws are made to protect weak persons against strong. But as we know that Plato was somehow right when he wrote about laws. Honest people doesn't need laws, and criminals always knows how to go round those texts, but that was his opinion. When we are talking about Plato we always forget that he lived in time, where normal people didn't have any kind of way to get real justice. If Plato won't support leaders he would go to executioner was policy of those days.

That's why Plato writes so many text what support leaders and kings. Plato was philosopher who we know about his way to support inherited way to rule nations, and in his model power will transfer from father to son. If he had been written something else, would leaders of state cut of his head. Fear of revenge of those leaders like Solon forced Plato supports strong leadership and strong authority for government. And that makes this man one of the most liked writer of history.

But when we return to think philosophers we must realize that those men were all individualists. Their way to life was far away from normal people life. And people might think that they were weird. And those men were very good speakers and texts what are made by them are very rhetorical. If those men wrote something, they always must realize that those texts might be dangerous for them. So they indicated in their text to some else philosopher who died couple of years ago. That sometimes saved their life, when original writer of text was dying couple of years ago.

They could say that somebody said that first. But philosophers had other kind of cover roles, and one was of course playwrights role. They could say that they are making some theatrical dramas, and that sometimes made leaders to relax with them. Philosophy is strange and dangerous thing, because it teaches people to think themselves. And when they learn to think, they will find new ways to handle some other things like moralistic and ethical methodology.
